The Oscar Mugshot

An Oscar figure stands in a mugshot, holding the year 2025. Recognition is present, but stripped of meaning. The image reflects a moment where Palestinian stories enter global cinema, only to be abandoned when reality follows. After No Other Land won the Oscar, its co-director Hamdan Ballal was attacked and arrested weeks later, with little institutional response . At the same time, The Voice of Hind Rajab reached the Oscars while one of its actors was unable to attend due to travel restrictions . The work captures this contradiction. Celebration and silence exist together. The award becomes evidence, not of support, but of distance between visibility and action.
